TESDA TRAINING REGULATIONS FOR MASONRY NC II COURSE
The TESDA Course in MASONRY NC II consists of competencies that a person must achieve that will enable to lay concrete hollow block for structure and plaster wall surfaces.
This Qualification is packaged from the competency map of Construction – Civil Works sub-sector.
A student who has achieved this Course in MASONRY NC II is competent to be:

TRAINEE ENTRY REQUIREMENTS
Trainees or students wishing to gain entry into this course should possess the following requirements:
- Able to read and write;
- With good moral character;
- Ability to communicate, both oral and written
- Physically fit and mentally healthy as certified by a Public Health Officer
MASONRY NC II – TRAINING AND REGULATION MODULE

This course is designed to provide the learner with knowledge, practical skills and attitude, applicable in performing work activities involve in laying of hollow block for structure and plaster wall surface. This includes classroom learning activities and practical work in actual work site or simulation area.
Upon completion of the course, the learners are expected to demonstrate the above-mentioned competencies to be employed. To obtain this, all units prescribed for this qualification must be achieved.

This unit covers the knowledge, skills and attitude required in productively establishing vertical and horizontal guides, laying concrete hollow block and performing jointing process.
- Establish vertical and horizontal guides
- Personal protective equipment (PPE) is used in accordance with Rule 1080 of Occupational Safety and Health Standards
- Drawings and specifications are read and interpreted
- Materials, tools and equipment are selected and prepared consistent with the job requirements
- Location of concrete hollow block wall is established based on reference building/wall lines
- Horizontal / vertical guide for hollow block is installed and marked according to specifications
- Work area is cleaned according to safety and environmental regulations (e.g. PD 1152 Section 6, 8 & 42)
- Required output is completed as specified by the immediate supervisor based on work schedule.
- Perform laying of concrete hollow block
- Personal protective equipment (PPE) is used in accordance with Rule 1080 of Occupational Safety and Health Standards
- Reinforcing bar / dowel is installed according to required job specifications
- Mortars are spread on the base /edge of hollow block according to job specifications
- Hollow block is laid on the line according to job specifications
- Constant checking of plumbness and alignment is done during hollow block laying
- Excess mortar on joints are scraped
- Work area is cleaned according to safety and environmental regulations (e.g. PD 1152 Section 6, 8 & 42)
- Required output is completed as specified by the immediate supervisor based on work schedule.
- Perform jointing process
- Personal protective equipment (PPE) is used in accordance with Rule 1080 of Occupational Safety and Health Standards
- Jointing is done in accordance with job specifications
- Finishing touches is done according to job specifications
- Work area is cleaned according to safety and environmental regulations (e.g. PD 1152 Section 6, 8 & 42)
- Required output is completed as specified by the immediate supervisor based on work schedule.
UNIT OF COMPETENCY : PLASTER WALL SURFACE
UNIT CODE : CON711319
This unit covers the knowledge, skills, and attitude required to productively prepare masonry/ concrete wall surfaces for plastering, applying cement plaster and performing curing.
- Prepare wall surfaces for plastering
- Personal protective equipment (PPE) is used in accordance with Rule 1080 of Occupational Safety and Health Standards
- Specifications are interpreted and followed
- Tools and equipment are selected and prepared in line with job requirements
- Plaster thickness is checked prior to wall surface preparation
- Wall surface preparation is performed according to established plastering procedures
- Work area is cleaned according to safety and environmental regulations (e.g. PD 1152 Section 6, 8 & 42)
- Required output is completed as specified by the immediate supervisor based on work schedule.
- Perform plastering work
- Personal protective equipment (PPE) is used in accordance with Rule 1080 of Occupational Safety and Health Standards
- Wall plastering is performed according to established procedures
- Work area is cleaned according to safety and environmental regulations (e.g. PD 1152 Section 6, 8 & 42)
- Required output is completed as specified by the immediate supervisor based on work schedule.
- Perform curing
- Personal protective equipment (PPE) is used in accordance with Rule 1080 of Occupational Safety and Health Standards
- Tools, equipment and materials are selected and prepared in accordance with selected curing methodology
- Curing is carried-out according to job requirements
- Work area is cleaned according to safety and environmental regulations (e.g. PD 1152 Section 6, 8 & 42)
- Required output is completed as specified by the immediate supervisor based on work schedule.

GLOSSARY OF TERMS
- DOWEL – A headless, cylindrical pin which, is sunk into corresponding holes
- LINTEL – Refers to the horizontal member over an opening such as door or window, usually carrying the load
- MORTAR – Refers to a mixture of cement, sand and water used for laying bricks or masonry units
- REBAR – Refers to the reinforcing bars that are embedded in building components such as concrete, masonry walls, columns, beams and other structural parts
- SCAFFOLD – Refers to a temporary or movable platform supported on the ground or suspended, used for working at considerable heights above the ground.
- FORMWORKS – A set of wood or steel forms in place to hold wet concrete until it hardens
- CURING – Is defined as providing adequate moisture, temperature, and time to allow the concrete to achieve the desired properties for its intended use.
