TESDA TRAINING REGULATIONS FOR PERFORMING ARTS (SONG) NC II COURSE

The TESDA Course in PERFORMING ARTS (SONG) NC II consists of competencies that a person must achieve to develop basic singing techniques, demonstrate/exhibit stage performance skills, perform solo number, and provide lead vocal for a group performance/band.

A trainee or student who has achieved this TESDA Course in PERFORMING ARTS (SONG) NC II is competent to be:

  • Back-up Singer
  • Solo Singer
  • Band Vocalist/Lead Singer

TRAINEE ENTRY REQUIREMENTS

Trainees or students wishing to enroll in these course qualifications should possess the following requirements:

  • Must be literate (knows how to read and write;
  • Must be physically and mentally healthy;

This course is designed to enhance the knowledge, skills and attitude of singers in singing in accordance with industry standards. It covers the basic, common and core competencies in develop basic singing techniques, demonstrate/exhibit stagecraft skills, perform solo number, provide lead vocal for a group performance/band, perform back-up vocal for a group performance/band and perform musical number as a soloist.

This unit covers the knowledge, skills and attitudes in developing basic singing techniques, particularly voice quality, diction/chords, rhythm/tempo, expression and showmanship

  1. Render voice quality
    • Song rendered must be in tune and within singer’s comfortable voice range.
    • Voice/tone should be appropriate with selected repertoire.
    • Repertoire selected must be in appropriate style.
  2. Deliver right diction/enunciation (“jicussion”)
    • Song is rendered with the right phrasing.
    • Song is rendered with the right musical diction.
  3. Deliver right rhythm/tempo
    • Song is rendered in accordance with the proper timing.
    • Song is rendered in accordance with the proper rhythm.
  4. Project right emotion/expression
    • Song is rendered with the proper emotion and expression.
    • Gestures should complement displayed emotion.
  5. Perform with showmanship
    • Performance must be rendered in accordance with the chosen musical piece/arrangement genre.
    • Performance elicited audience attention.
    • Appropriate attire worn in accordance with the motif of the musical performance.
    • Stage presence projected as per stage movements and in accordance with the musical piece.

UNIT OF COMPETENCY : DEMONSTRATE/EXHIBIT STAGE PERFORMANCE SKILLS

This unit covers the knowledge, skills and attitudes in demonstrating/exhibiting stage performance skills. It includes understanding and application of presentation and stage communication to maximize audience reception of the creative work.

  1. Develop stage performance skills
    • Appropriate learning and stage experience identified as per stage performance requirements.
    • Strengths and weaknesses identified as per development goals against planned outcomes.
    • Stage image, including posture, attire/costume and make-up planned in accordance with presentation requirements.
    • Rehearsal, stage opportunities and private practice used as per planned development strategies.
    • Stage discipline is maintained during performance.
  2. Apply stage performance skills
    • Perform with confidence and with stage discipline avoiding
      unnecessary mannerisms, movements and reaction.
    • Appropriate eye contact established with audience.

    • Performance energy and flexibility maintained based on appropriate spontaneous or rehearsed stage movements.
    • Distractions occurring on stage responded with flexibility as per its occurrence.

This unit covers the knowledge, skills and attitudes of technical, expressive communication and stage skills required to perform for an audience as a soloist.

  1. Prepare for rehearsal
    • Recorded/live accompaniments checked as per standard operating procedures.
    • Completeness of songbook checked as per songbook pagination.
    • Physical preparations prior to singing undertaken in accordance with repertoire.
    • Recorded practices reviewed as per SOPs .
  2. Perform warm-up routine
    • Vocal exercises performed in accordance with genre of the song.
    • Music fully rehearsed in accordance with required performance standard.
    • Performance rendered with confidence and in accordance with techniques for overcoming performance anxieties.
  3. Interpret songs
    • Different types of music interpreted in accordance with presentation requirements.
    • Voice/tone harmonized with the selected repertoire.
    • Song rendered must be in accordance with the require voice/tonal quality and stage performance.
    • Audience appreciation is maintained in accordance with presentation requirements.

UNIT OF COMPETENCY : PROVIDE LEAD VOCAL FOR A GROUP PERFORMANCE/BAND

This unit covers the knowledge, skills and attitudes of technical, expressive communication and stage skills required to perform for an audience as lead vocals for a group performance.

  1. Prepare for performance
    • Repertoire and songbook checked as per physical preparations.
    • Performance rendered with confidence and in accordance with techniques for overcoming performance anxieties.
  2. Perform warm-up routine
    • Vocal exercise undertaken in accordance with genre of the song.
    • Music fully rehearsed in accordance with required performance standard.
    • Performance rendered with confidence and in accordance with techniques for overcoming performance anxieties.
  3. Perform vocals
    • Music interpreted and projected in accordance with genre.
    • Audience appreciation maintained in accordance with required performance standard.
    • Appropriate techniques used effectively and in accordance with required performance standard.
    • Voice/tone harmonized as per selected repertoire.
    • Song delivered in accordance with performance standards with other members.
    • Performance must be in accordance with the arranged piece with proper timing and song delivery.
    • Appropriate attire worn in accordance with motif of the musical piece.

This unit covers the outcomes required to comply with regulatory and organizational requirements for occupational health and safety.

    • Safety regulations and workplace safety and hazard control practices and procedures are clarified and explained based on organization procedures
