Maligaya Institute of Culinary Arts and Residential Services (MICARS) is an institution accredited by TESDA that offers Technical and Vocational Education and Training Programs (TVET) under the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA) and the Commission on Higher Education (CHED).
As a learning institution, Manila Institute for Culinary Arts and Residential Services sets for itself the objective of forming young women into highly-competent members of the service industry with positive work attitudes and an authentic concern for persons.
Established by the Foundation for Professional Training, Inc., MICARS shares its mother organization’s commitment “to provide innovative education and skills development programs that will promote the well being of the marginalized young women.
As a technical-vocational school that offers skills in culinary arts courses, it aims to provide young women in the urban areas livelihood and employment skills, work attitudes and Christian values that contribute to their economic, social, human and spiritual development. This hereby, enhances their dignity and effectiveness in the performance of their varied roles in family life and nation-building. The Institute is committed to support their young scholars for two years. Thus, financial aid is available to those who would qualify into the program.
These words from St Josemaria best describe the inspiration behind the founding of the Manila Institute for Culinary Arts and Residential Services (MICARS).
From what began as a two-storey house in Malate more commonly known as Maligaya Training Center (named after the street where the house stood) 20 years ago to what is now a tall building, MICARS puts substance and scope to this Feminine Genius, the uncommon selflessness attributed to women. Back then, when the term culinary nutrition and the more formal cooking and baking classes were unheard of, the small institute blazed a trail in forming young women in the essential skills and traits more needed in the home.
