Agro-Industrial Foundation College of the Philippines is an institution accredited by TESDA that offers Technical and Vocational Education and Training Programs (TVET) under the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA) and the Commission on Higher Education (CHED).

Agro-Industrial Foundation College of the Philippines (AIFCP) was founded in June 1978 by the late Captain Serapion C. Basalo. He founded this school for there was only one (1) school in Davao City offering Maritime courses.

The frontage of AIFCP was once knee-deep marsh or swamp full of mangrove trees. The former DILF Secretary, Luis Santos, commented to the late Capt. Basalo saying, Compadre, are you crazy to build a school in a swamp:? But the late Capt. Basalo only smiled, according to Mrs. Sofia R. Basalo. Right then, Capt. Basalo had this place earth filled. He worked tremendously day and night and drove the grader himself. Then he built a 4-room makeshift building and opened three (3) courses, namely: Bachelor of Science in Marine Transportation, Bachelor of Science in Marine Engineering, and 6-month Basic Seaman Course. In the first 2 to 3 years of existence, teachers and students found difficulty in commuting from their residence to AGRO because at that time there were no public transports yet except cargo trucks and private vehicles that plied Bolton Bridge. In going down to school, one had to use the big boulders at the side of the bridge as its steps were dangerous and slippery especially during rainy days. But in spite of the risky situation, teachers and students alike came to school regularly including the evening students. The were really determined to become sailors and seafarers. Later the H. S. AIFCP P.T.A. Constructed concrete steps at theside of the bridge to make it more convenient for both teachers and students.

In 1989 Capt. Serapion C. Basalo, the founder of AIFCP. Died and Mrs. Sofia R. Basalo, his better half, took the reign of the school. Sometime in 1996, a concrete covered walk was constructed through the initiative of our President, Mrs. Sofia R. Basalo. With her leadership the school has tremendously undergone massive development that makes the school what it is now.
