Abuyog Community College is an institution accredited by TESDA that offers Technical and Vocational Education and Training Programs (TVET) under the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA) and the Commission on Higher Education (CHED).
Abuyog Community College is a local government unit sponsored college which is under the sponsorship of the Sangguniang Bayan of Abuyog, Leyte. It was on October 21, 1978 when Resolution No. 110 was passed by the Sangguniang Bayan of the municipality approved the opening of Abuyog Community College (ACC), formerly Don Orestes Memorial College. The opening of ACC was very memorable for it became a realization of a dream of all Abuyognons who couldn’t afford to send their children to expensive colleges in the town. ACC is established to serve as a primary instrument in educating and training people of Abuyog and the nearby municipalities to be morally upright, self-reliant and community-oriented citizens.
It was on June 15, 1987 when Abuyog Community College was granted Government Recognition No.002, series of 1987 to offer 4-year Bachelor of Arts. Another authority granted to the college was to offer Bachelor of Elementary Education and Bachelor of Secondary Education major in Social Science, effective school year 1998-1999 per CHED order Number 10, series of 2000.
On April 19, 2006, Resolution No. 77, series of 2006 was approved allowing the college to offer additional courses starting the opening of Academic Year 2006-2007. New courses included 4-year degree courses in BS Criminology, BS Hotel and Restaurant Management, BS Entrepreneurship, and BS Information and Technology. These new courses paved the way for the surge of enrollment and enhance the ability of the school to keep abreast with the new trends in education. Today, Abuyog Community College is the only community college in the province of Leyte.
