The presence of Don Bosco in the Philippines began in 1912 when two Salesian priests arrived in the Parish of Nuestra Señora de los Remedios in Malate, Manila. Ten years later, the Rt. Rev. Msgr. William Piani,SDB and Rev. Louis Morrow,SDB were appointed Delegate and Secretary respectively. The Salesian mission in the Philippines took a more definite shape with the designation of Rev. Fr. Charles Braga, SDB as the first Provincial Superior.
He paved the way for the establishment of a permanent Salesian Society in the country. The first Salesian educational institution, St. John Bosco Academy, was founded in 1951 in Tarlac, Tarlac. A second institution was established in 1952 at Victorias, Negros Occidental, and was followed by other schools in Mandaluyong in 1953, in Cebu and in Makati in 1954 and eventually Pampanga in 1956.
Don Bosco Academy started its Salesian Education in Pampanga in 1956 at the St. Ferdinand Academy in San Fernando, Pampanga. After two years, Salesian Education found its permanent home at the Don Bosco Academy in nearby Bacolor town. For the next 38 years, Don Bosco Academy educated and formed boys and young men coming from all over Pampanga and from some towns of Bataan and Bulacan.
It was the onslaught of lahar burying the school in October 1995 that caused its operation to cease. The remaining months of that academic year were held at St. Scholastica’s Academy through the openness and generosity of the Benedictine Sisters.
From that painful reality, Salesian Education found its new home in Mabalacat, the northernmost town of Pampanga in June 1996. From pre-fabricated classrooms and dust-filled grounds at the start, Don Bosco Academy has grown in its service for the young through the past 16 to 18 years of its existence in this second permanent site. It continues to develop as it offers basic education for kinder, grade school and high school students. Its facilities for the integral education of the young have greatly improved and expanded. In 2003 it started to offer the Technical Vocational Education and Training (TVET) Program to the out-of-school youth of the area.
Don Bosco Academy – Pampanga at present (SY 2013-2014) is on its 58th year of ministering to the young people of Pampanga; it is on its 18th year in Mabalacat City, Pampanga.
With the onset of the K to 12 program of the Department of Education and its full implementation by school year 2016-2017 with Grade 11, Don Bosco Academy prepares itself appropriately.
