Through its 50 years of existence, the Quezon National Agricultural School (QNAS) in Pagbilao has evolved to become an excellent TESDA-administered school.

QNAS into a pioneer school using competency-based training and ladderized programs in agriculture. It also has become an agriculture research center. The school celebrated its 50th foundation anniversary in August this year by recognizing its partners and alumni that contributed to its success.

In 1994, QNAS was first cited by TESDA with a Bronze Award in quality management system. This year, it was awarded the silver level accreditation for excellence in academic and educational quality by the Asia Pacific Accreditation and Certification Commission (APACC). QNAS shares this award with the TESDA Women’s Center in Taguig City, and the Kor-Phil Center in Tibungco, Davao City.

“Undeniably, QNAS is excellent and fantastic”, says Dorji Wangdi, Minister of Labor and Human Resources of Bhutan, who visited QNAS recently to benchmark the school’s operations. Among those cited were the the Student Instructional Enterprises project which introduced in 1994 ladderized course such as Diploma in Agricultural Technology and Bachelor in Agricultural Technology.

Under this system, the students are exposed to actual business situations and methodologies and are required to conduct practical activities. Also in 1994, QNAS was designated as one of 12 schools throughout the country designated as Provincial Technical Institutes of Agriculture (PTIA) to implement the AGRITECH Project.

In2001, the three-year Food Preparation and Service Technology course was offered due to the increasing demand for skilled workers in the hospitality industry.

The Bio-N Mixing Plant, the only certified facility of its kind in Quezon province certified by thebiotechnology department of the University of the Philippines in Los Baños, earned one million pesos during its first year operation.

Other successful partnership projects of QNAS were those with Rotary Club International for the school’s tissue culture laboratory and with Nestle Philippines for coffee production.

The Philippine Council for Agriculture, Forestry and Natural Resources Research and Development (PCARRD) chose QNAS as one of its research centers for agriculture. Likewise, the school was a recipient of the German Technical Cooperation – Expansion of Education and Training (GTZ-EDET) project in 2003.

The DepEd Division of Quezon chose QNAS as training center for their technical and livelihood education upgrading program. Also, the provincial office of the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) and the Canadian International Development Agency through its Canadian Executive Services Organization chose the school as food processing plant and packaging center.

In 2007, QNAS teamed up with Quezonians 1923, a non-government organization, to bring the government’s skills and manpower development programs to the communities- nearer to the people of Quezon province.

With the continuing support of its stakeholders, alumni, and Quezonians, QNAS looks forward to providing excellent education and training and transforming technologies to improve people’s lives.
